What Is the U.S. Turkey Super Slam? The Pursuit Across 49 States

Forty-nine states. Different terrain, different turkeys, different people, and one pursuit that has shaped Chasing 49 for years. This is the story behind the U.S. Turkey Super Slam and what chasing it has meant to us.

What Is the U.S. Turkey Super Slam?

The U.S. Turkey Super Slam is one of the biggest challenges in turkey hunting. It takes a hunter across 49 states, through different terrain, turkey subspecies, regulations, weather, and hunting cultures.

But the challenge is about more than the number 49. Every state has its own story. Different landscapes, different people, and different ways of hunting the same bird are what make the pursuit what it is.

Our Pursuit of the U.S. Turkey Super Slam

Chasing 49 was built around traveling the country in pursuit of wild turkeys and documenting what happened along the way. Over the years, that pursuit has taken us across the continental United States and into places we never would have experienced without turkey hunting.

Every state brought something different. Some hunts lasted days, others came together quickly. There were long drives, changing conditions, unfamiliar terrain, new friendships, and plenty of mistakes along the way. Those experiences became the foundation of what Chasing 49 is today.

The goal has always been bigger than simply killing a turkey in 49 states. We want to preserve the stories behind the pursuit and show what turkey hunting looks like across the country through the people, places, films, and experiences that make each state different.

Document. Protect. Conserve.

Document.
A huge part of Chasing 49 is preserving what we experience along the way. The hunts matter, but so do the people, places, traditions, and stories surrounding wild turkey hunting across the country. Through film, photography, and storytelling, we want to document our version of that culture while we still have the opportunity to experience it.

Protect.
Traveling across the country has also given us a firsthand look at how different wild turkey populations, habitats, and hunting traditions can be from one state to the next. Protecting the resource means paying attention to the challenges facing wild turkeys and supporting the work that keeps turkey hunting strong.

Conserve.
There are huntable wild turkey populations across 49 states today because generations before us invested in conservation. Chasing 49 wants to help make sure future generations have the same opportunity to hear a gobble, chase a wild turkey, and experience the places this pursuit has taken us.

Turkey Hunting Across 49 States

Every state adds a different chapter to the pursuit. Terrain, weather, turkey populations, season structure, hunting pressure, and local hunting culture can change completely from one state to the next.

As the Chasing 49 Journal grows, we’ll use this section of the site to break down those experiences state by state. That will include stories from the road, lessons learned, films and photographs from individual hunts, and practical information for hunters interested in chasing wild turkeys across the country.

The goal is to build a record of the journey that goes deeper than simply marking another state complete.

Follow the Journey

The U.S. Turkey Super Slam gave Chasing 49 a reason to keep moving, but the experiences along the way are what built the brand. The films we produce, stories we tell, and products we create all come from some part of that pursuit.

The Chasing 49 Journal will continue documenting the journey through individual states, hunts, people, conservation stories, and lessons from the road. Whether you follow through our films, the Journal, or something from Chasing 49 that represents the pursuit, it all comes back to the same 49-state story.
